LOL glitch

PRAMA Initiative a également une page sur .

The LOL glitch involves unterminated name glitch items in Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow, allowing a "partial escape" from a battle. The most common variation of the trick involves pressing A on the glitch item and then throwing a Poké Ball (preferably a Master Ball) to capture a Pokémon with data determined by what was stored on the screen when the items pack was opened.

It was found by luckytyphlosion when he was experimenting with glitch items and was eventually succeeded by the more powerful Rival LOL glitch.

In Red/Blue there is no known way to get a Glitch City for the glitch Pokémon ▼ W G d (hex:CE) or hex:A2 MissingNo., nor Omanyte, Dugtrio, Caterpie, Kingler, Haunter, Charmeleon or Oddish. To get them with LOL glitch Rival LOL glitch must be used instead.

Advantages

1) Allows you to do 'CoolTrainer mutation' in Yellow to get more than just Missingno. and Horsea, or those available from the Pokédex glitch item method.

2) Sometimes CoolTrainer will just stop working, but this should always work with an applicable item.

3) The player doesn't have to go to a location such as Diglett's Cave as in bad CoolTrainers, even if the screen data would result in CFC4 being an odd 'bad' value.

Steps (Red and Blue)

1) Enter a wild Pokémon battle and escape the battle using 9F (hex:5E).

2) The graphics will be messed up. You may want to fix them by entering a warp and leaving, but don't fly away, as flying away will reset D057 back to 00.

3) Walk to a position where there is a 0x50 sub-tile before x=08 y=0C. This is to avoid corruption of D057.

Advanced: This tile can be 01 (making step 1 and 2 unnecessary) and a 0x50 sub-tile can be anywhere on the screen after x=08 y=0C, but if you do that and x=0B y=0C is not 00, you'll get a forced item selection effect, so in that case put 9F at the top of the list before you use the ball to get out of the menu. Additionally, if you have your first 50 at X=01 Y=10 or later and X=01 Y=10 is a non 00 value, you'll make menus and text invisible.

4) Press A on a Super Glitch item (but don't use it), such as PC (hex:80) and then throw a ball to get your Pokémon!

Steps (Yellow)

1) Enter a wild Pokémon battle and escape using -gm (hex:6A) or Lg- (hex:6E). If you use -gm, it may seem like the game just softlocks, but all you have to do is open the start menu. If you use Lg-, you have to wait for a few seconds before the battle ends.

2) Recommended: Put the graphics back to normal with 9F (hex:5E).

3) Walk to a position where there is a 0x50 sub-tile before x=08 y=0C. This is to avoid corruption of D057. Don't fly away, as flying away will reset D057 back to 00.

4) Press A on a Super Glitch item (but don't use it), such as 2p (hex:92) and then throw a ball to get your Pokémon!

Notes

1) Glitch items are available with the expanded items pack and Celadon looping map trick.

2) Glitch Cities differ between Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow, making some methods to get particular species not to work.

3) Super Glitch items corrupt the memory because their name is copied from CD6D to CF4B up to (inclusive) 50. If there is no 50 in the first 20 characters, screen data gets copied to CF5F and onward.

4) Encountering a hooked Metapod (through instant encounter) is possible if the first 50 is after BGB coordinates x=0A, y=0C, but you can't get anything other than Metapod because x=0A y=0C has to be part of the menu. The broken start menu effect cannot be used to work around this, but you can get different Pokémon in Japanese versions due to different screen tiles corrupting different things.

5) Known side effects: Corruption of what NPCs look like, corruption of wild Pokémon's HP and status, turning them into Ditto when you catch them. The corruption of wild Pokémon can be fixed by saving and resetting.

6) Save and reset (or encounter a wild Pokémon and run?) before doing the glitch again, or the Pokémon will be Ditto.

7) Even in places where you can Dig, if you do this glitch then you can't Dig. This is due to D057/6 being 01. You can fix this by saving and resetting.
