The official Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console emulators have vulnerabilities.

Escape to Home menu (EN Pokémon Gold and Silver VC)

As documented in a video, via Pokémon game specific arbitrary code execution, modifying DA00 (last map) to $AC00 in Cherrygrove City Pokémon Center 1F, going up the stairs and back down again has been able to cause the game to escape back to the Home menu with an error message (the generic "An error has occurred, forcing the software to close. The system will now restart. (Unsaved data may be lost.)".

This was a real occurrence, but it was achieved on a Nintendo 3DS with custom firmware installed and the vulnerability may have since been patched. Furthermore, the mechanics of this glitch map are not understood, raising questions about the reliability of the exploit in terms of being able to replicate it.
