Sudowoodo sprite glitches

This article lacks images.

Emulator screenshots are preferred to pictures taken with a camera of a capture card; however, a medium-quality image is better than no image.

Any contributions are highly appreciated!

The Sudowoodo sprite glitches occur in Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal (Silver is not confirmed but Gold/Crystal are).

Glitch 1

If the player bypasses Sudowoodo or heads gets to Route 37 from Ecruteak City before using the SquirtBottle on Sudowoodo, the sprites of twins Ann and Anne may change to two red trees. When the player speaks to them from the left or right, their sprite will change to a red Lapras. This glitch may be seen with a walk through walls method (e.g. arbitrary code execution) to access Ecruteak City early. Finishing the battle with Sudowoodo and having it disappear will return Ann and Anne's sprites back to normal.

Glitch 2

This glitch only applies to Crystal because Floria (from Goldenrod Flower Shop) only appears near Sudowoodo in this version. Beating Goldenrod City gym will cause Floria to appear near Sudowoodo. If the Squirtbottle is used when she is on the screen, her sprite (and nothing else) may turn into that of a policeman. Since Floria actually gives the player the Squirtbottle and walks away, this glitch may only be possible to see with arbitrary code execution or the bad clone glitch with Flail to give a Pokémon the Squirtbottle.

In Pokémon Gold there is another way to bypass Sudowoodo by shifting it away to the right from its original position with multiple wrong pocket TM47 uses. When TM47 is used outside of the TM/HM pocket, it will shift the player's sprite, NPCs and the screen two spaces to the right. Saving and resetting will apply the changes to be actual changes, so the player can walk past Sudowoodo and see Ann and Anne's transformation. If TM47 is used again, the player can shift the twins to the right so that the player can talk to them from above. This causes their sprites to change to a Sudowoodo 'shaking' animation frame.

It is possible to get TM47 in English Gold/Silver using the Coin Case glitch:

Steps

1) Prepare a slide Pokémon in slot 3 and Quagsire holding TM02 (can be bought from Goldenrod Department Store) with Return (available via TM27 from Goldenrod Department Store by showing a Pokémon with high happiness on Sundays) as the first move in slot 4.

The slide Pokémon (any low level Pokémon preferably from Route 29) may be 'good' or 'bad' (e.g. its DVs may represent bad assembly code which freezes the game). If the game freezes the player may need to try the trick again with another).

2) Name the boxes the following:

Box 1: Ap'vQ'vB'55

Box 2: é7♀p'v7'v'd

Box 3: é-2péD9'l

Box 4: 'l5555555

Box 5: A'lx'd

(A self-modifying code that adds an inc sp to itself; see http://pastebin.com/vpYXhryt for technical information on what this spells out in ASM)

3) Make a specific movement such as either four steps right (below the first tree) after walking out of Elm's lab or four steps right (below the second tree) after walking out of Cherrygrove City's Poké Mart.

4) Listen to Bellsprout's cry, change item pockets and view the Coin Case. The first balls item should now be a TM36; allowing us to exploit the glitch effect. To avoid a freeze, we 'fixed' the stack (using pop de, pop de, inc sp and pop de) and set HRAM address ff83 to 0.

There is a bad side effect of the start menu being slowed down to an extreme, but this can be fixed by saving and resetting. If the player holds down A and mashes down they can slowly move the cursor to save and mash A to save the game.

If the player wants to get TM36 with an item set up (without the bad side effect), they can try Crystal_'s "Turn Coin Case into a memory editor" method which needs a Quagsire holding a Protein and specific box items.
