Prototype Sketches of Early G/S/C Pokemon

I found a few very interesting sketches of possible alpha/beta pokemon designs for G/S/C or Pocket Monsters 2 at that time, most were just redesigned into existing pokemon like Qwilfish and Girafarig but a few are quite strange.

Sketches exist of a possible intended fire evolution of Pikachu "Honouguma" and a new Seal pokemon named "Kurusa" note those are Japanese names.

Here's what I found:

Qwilfish prototype?: Bukuu (JP)

Chikorita prototype - notice the larger more upright build: Happa (JP)

Intended fire evolution of Pikachu? - Honouguma (JP)

Girafarig prototype - notice Girafarig has two bodies: Kirinriki (JP)

Seel based addition? - looks very similar to Seel: Kurusu (JP)

Alpha Marill? - Notice that it is pink instead of blue: Mariru (JP)

Alternate Clefairy evolution? - Notice it is shaped more like a star: Unknown name

Unused turtle design - Its shell is green more like a Koopa Troopa and has a blue head: Unknown name

Alpha Tyrannitar Sketch - It is slightly taller and looks less aggressive: Unknown name

An early sketch featuring an Alpha Ledyba - Its eyes look different and is missing part of its head

I've never seen those last few before. Tyranitar doesn't look right for some reason….

The fire Pikachu would have been cool.

I'm almost certain that I've seen the upright Chikorita and the Seel prototype before, but all the others are totally new. Where did you find these?

I found a site which notes those pokemon however it is old and the links for the images have broken http://cc.domaindlx.com/pokemontr/o7.htm

However I had a search and found those images on Bulbapedia except for the ones above

I suspect that ?Cleffa? is actually a design of Hitmontop or Tyrogue. That Koopa Troopa is probably Shuckle too.

Those two pictures and the Tyranitar were part of a larger image that had a couple trainers, as well.

Yes I agree as Tyranitar looks like its almost kneeling towards a trainer and there is some text to the left indicating there is more to be seen on the left hand side as it wouldn't be a good idea to leave space unless it is on the edge of the page.

If the turtle was a prototype shuckle it seems its pose and appearance must have been heavily changed and thus its nature as a docile berry bearing pokemon.

But I still don't know what to think about that Seal like pokemon, it does resemble some third generation and up pokemon like walrein or gastrodon but its quite different, maybe it was meant to be a prevolution of Seel.

Those look cool but it seems suspicious that they would want a Fire type Pikachu. It doesn't really seem Nintendo's style to consider making a branched evolution of him.

They did have Marill as the spectated 'Pikablu' but the fire bear's face looks much more familiar to Raichu's and so that was probably a reason why they might have dropped it or perhaps some of this concept art isn't so reliable after all.
