Pokemon Cloning Help

I have spent many hrs trying to clone pkmn with only two sucessfull clones. This is my method:
1) Deposit pokemon in empty box
2)Change to another empty box
3)As it is saving turn off the power at the end of the word ''power'' when the message is displayed

Many, many times this doesn't work. I play pokemon crystal on the Nitendo SP. If I try the glitch on silver the save is instantly corrupted. Why doesn't it work most of the time? When is the most accurate time to turn off the power in crystal?
Your help would be extremely appreciated. :-[

First off, please be sure to read the rules. No abbreviating Pokemon.
Second, try waiting for three seconds instead of waiting for the end of "power".
