Yeah, at least regarding the cut Pokemon.

It's real. It was also known some time before Helix Chamber released it.

Do you know anything else about it? HC seems like they might know more than they're letting on about it.

I'm curious as to why there is a prototype Blue sprite of Mew when Blue was released after Red and Green, but also because Mew wasn't added until the game essentially went gold, as I understood it. It's strange to me that a sprite of Mew from so much later on would be present in such a prototype. Unless the donor just had the sprite from elsewhere and included it?

Assuming this is real, I wonder who the leaker is. Getting hold of a copy of a Spaceworld cart isn't as far out there, but this seems like it would be only accessible internally. Really strange.

Known?! Heck no, not until yesterday! These are ripped assets from a prototype Red and Green!! The original layout of Kanto, the new sprites, the move list, the little gimmick I wish they'd kept while doing trades…I'm not even done mentally processing the Gold and Silver demos, and thanks to the same team and their trustworthiness and discretion, we have this now!

EDIT: Wait, when was it made known before the release yesterday?

Also:

You're far from the first to want to know, but this is the type of thing that threatens the possibility of further leaks in the future. It necessarily could only have come from some sort of "insider", but having risked this much just to bring fans of a video game series some info, to be paid back by having their identity revealed would be downright wrong, not to mention a resounding "don't!" for anyone else who may have this kind of material.

Oh, that was just more of a passing "I wonder what kind of person could have gotten a hold of this kind of information" rather than "SOMEONE GO FIND THIS GUY" – sorry, I didn't mean for it to come across that way! To me, it just seems unlikely for someone unaffiliated with Game Freak in some way to have it – no wonder they want to remain anonymous.

What's the "little gimmick" you'd wish they'd kept, by the way? I think I may have missed it

Yes, sorry Crystalame. I'd rather not associate with this stuff anymore. The source was a leaker who wished to remain anonymous. I gave in to temptation so to speak from an associate at pret/Helix Chamber, they taught me some of the stuff that is now on Helix Chamber. They asked they kept it secret and for confidentiality I won't reveal their name.

I don't know the full circumstances of how this came to be, but the official source code was leaked and I personally don't approve of it. Hope you understand, sorry if I sound arrogant but I'm justified.

I don't want this to become a drama though so I suggest we don't get too deep if that's OK. Crystalame and Sherkel I appreciate both of what you said.

Sorry, I might have looked a bit too much at comment sections. Didn't mean to sound aggressive toward you either, just wanted to clarify what seemed to fly over a lot of people's heads.

As for that other thing, look under the "Music and Cries" list and this is right at the top: "unused rgby theme: trade (one channel each gameboy)"! It would have been so cool!

I think the unused rgby trade/yellow Giovanni themes in the text file could refer to these ones.

I hadn't thought of that!! It seems a bit too simple to be the case, but…I'm basically convinced. The first one existed in an incomplete state according to the description (and listening to it), but presumably the rest of it (by the description, the higher registers) would have been played through the other player's system?

As for the Giovanni theme, the fact it's in Yellow only and has that same "comic book" feel about it that Jessie and James's theme does, plus the militant percussion…whether or not it was in fact intended for him, it would have worked.

I seen this posted over at Sonic Retro, and I'm amazed! This is awesome that we got more Pokemon beta information! Some of the sprites look better than the final ones honestly, especially this old man sprite:

He looks like a wizard, and I'm not gonna lie I laughed my a** off when I first seen these sprites!  :XD:

I wonder if any of these designs were referenced when the designers were planning future Pokemon games. Some of the sprites look like they could be the basis for current Pokemon.

Baloonda could have became Drifloon when Diamond and Pearl were being planned.
Deer looks like it definitely could have been the basis for Stantler when Gold and Silver were being planned.
And Gorochu… wasn't there some sort of rumor involving him way back when?

Anyways, neat to see some of this stuff finally come to light. Love beta elements.
