In English Yellow, Torchickens got the "disco" Pikachu effect using 01xx3DCD (xx=0E). I decided to try the code in Japanese Yellow using the same value and this is what I got.

I don't get what it is, the text bubble?

It's the eyes.

Here's xx=04 (blinking).

xx=10 causes the title screen to permanently reload. This happens 3 (after the first) in the following aniGIF before it loops.

xx=19 causes this.

xx=34 for parts of the alphabet!

xx=35, and I attached the glitch music (WAV).

Sounds like an alien signal, lol. And that looks a little off-putting to me, like Pikachu has got a fatal skin irritation. When I first tried 01353DCD on Japanese Yellow v1.0 the game seemed to try and play Pallet Town's theme constantly. The music got to continue after I pressed A to advance to the continue/new game screen. I could replicate this by activating 01353DCD on the continue/new game/option screen and pressing B.

After trying again I got some glitch music that was more than just a repeated sound. I notice that the music bank C0EF, C0F0 changed to 0.

I will move this to Pokémon glitch discussion because the topic is no longer about the valid 'eye state' 02-05.

Edit on March 1st 2015: Changed image URL per request.

What do those banks do? I recall that they were modified in English Yellow to play the unused theme using specific GameShark codes.

Sure, I was just having fun with it after that :P

Actually, "CDDDDDDM" seems to be in place of HP bars. Look closely, they're in the same position, and the text box seems to start by saying てき, which in the English versions was translated to "enemy".

I don't have a good technical understanding of what they are, but they are 'sound banks' that tell the game what type of music to play.

Here are what valid sound banks are for:
02 - Main places, route music, S.S. Anne, Safari Zone, gyms, Pokémon League gates, Oak's theme, Rival's theme, guide music, Pokéflute
08 - Battle related music/audio
1F - Caves, dungeons, Bicycle, Surfing, Oak's Lab, intro music, Trainer encounter themes, Jigglypuff's song
20 - Special music in Yellow only (i.e. Pikachu's Beach, printer error, Jessie & James encounter theme, unused tune).

(This is why my code for the unused tune in Yellow requires setting C0EF and C0F0 to 20)

It may be impossible to play a certain tune if the game is on the wrong bank. I don't know for sure.

If the game tries to play music that doesn't exist (usually from an invalid bank but it can be from 20 too) glitches can happen like the Pokémon Center nurse disappearing IIRC.

Thanks, at least I now know where to look for specific music :)

Wow, it's been almost 5 years!

To listen to this song, enter the GameShark codes 0120EFC0, 0120F0C0 and 019F5AD3.

In Japanese Yellow, these exact codes play glitch music and entering another map from a warp may freeze the game (just happened when I tried to enter the mansion in Cinnabar Island).

Thanks for telling me. At first I suspected it was just because "music played when you enter a new map" (D35A) is different in Japanese Yellow where it is D2DA.

It turns out that the bank in Japanese Yellow is 28, not 20.

So you need to use:
019FDAD2
0128EFC0
0128F0C0

For reference here are music digits (thanks to Raven Freak for a lot of the work) which I linked in my 8F  and ws m sound test video.

2010 seems about right, but when it's expressed as "5 years ago" it makes me feel like it was so far away. xD

D2DA? That's the address I manipulated for this in all Japanese versions. I remember that Hibiki Ganaha also gave me a code in which 28 was part of it but I didn't understand what it was for so I just set D2DA to FF.

So you need to use:
019FDAD2
0128EFC0
0128F0C0

Thanks.
