Does Index Number 503 in HeartGold and SoulSilver store Rotom data? - Page 1

Does Index Number 503 in HeartGold and SoulSilver store Rotom data?

So while messing around with summoning index numbers past 493 in wild encounters through the use of a "Max Pokeballs" and a "Number of Masterballs = index number of Pokemon encountered" cheat, I ran into index number 501, which takes the appearance of a dark gray box, like all of the "functional" past index number 493 Pokemon. It also has the typing of Electric/Ghost, a typing exclusive to Rotom. In addition, it shares Rotom's ability of Levitate and has Rotom's move set, that being Astonish, Thunder Wave, ThunderShock, and Confuse Ray at level 3. With this information, my only conclusion is that 501 is used to store some set of data for Rotom. The question is why stored it at 501, 24 slots away from Rotom itself at 479.

Also, hello there! First post, sorry if I messed anything up. (If I did, please point it out!)

EDIT: 503 not 501 sorry! Been doing this a lot and got them confused….

Yes. You can see the full list of which index numbers store the forms here: List of Pokémon by index number (Generation IV)

Oh, well I feel like a right idiot now. Interesting note though, while according to that chart #502 is a Manaphy Egg, force encountering it gives you a Bad Egg, which hardlocks the game after the Pokedex screen if you attempt to catch it. This is odd as #501, Pokemon Egg, appears seemingly appropriately as "Egg", albeit with the ability to use Splash which I doubt was an intended feature. Egg also softlocks the game after the Pokedex screen if you try and catch it.

Yep you're right, most glitch Pokémon before the crashes and weird clones are used to store data of other Pokémon.
