8F weirdness in changing player name

So, a while ago I got myself 8F in my pokémon red file. Had been wanting to do that for a while now. Thought that, for the first ultilization of the item, I'd go for something safe and useful, so I went in a thread with a setup for changing your player name. Perfect candidate, since my name got ZZAZZ'd forever ago!

Since I was feeling lazy about getting items and such (and for whatever reasons, even after 20 or so encounters, I couldn't find any M' or the like in cinnabar and I didn't want to waste all my remaining trainers for item cloning stuff) I just used Pikasav to get myself most stuff I'd need, include the 233 HP pidgey. I mean, I could definetively have just changed my name in Pikasav but what I wanted some fun, you feel me?

So, there I am. Bootstrap party, items ready. Use 8F- success! The first letter becomes what I wanted! I adjust the item quantities back to being the right ones, use 8F again… nothing.

I tried again a few more times but nope. Nada. Original name was Bunny, at the end of six iterations of using 8F, it was BZnZZ. So now I'm kind of confused about it… does anyone know why that happened?

You're not supposed to adjust the items. It changes every time because every character takes up 1 byte and it needs to shift the address over to put the second character in. Just let them change and it'll work.
