Java 0-Day Exploits

How much of a concern are these "Java 0-Day Exploits?"
I wouldn't think they'd be so much of a concern, but, as the United States Government wants people to disable Java, I'm torn on what to do.

Do they really post as much of a threat as the Government says they do? Am I really in that much danger?

Don't go around executing weird applets and following their directions or clicking strange links basically.
