Don't post everytime Firefox 3.5.x increases by 0.0.1, please.  The x is just random security fixes, not rendering engine. Firefox 3.5.5 = Firefox 3.5.0 in terms of its engine.

In terms of browser compatibility GCL 1.0 is probably set. We know it works in Firefox (+Seamonkey and whatever else out there uses the Gecko engine) and IE, which is roughly ~80%.

I think the main focus now is the wiki. Mediawiki should be cross-browser as-is but I think the current version has some kind of issue with Chrome and possibly Safari (fixed in MW 1.14 I think? The current version is 1.16 I believe).

As outlined above Firefox is the main browser to pay attention to (over 50%), IE falls secondly and Chrome/Safari and Opera take the remainder. I believe strongly in an open and accessible web, so at a minimum the site should be compatible with:
* Firefox 2.0 + other Gecko-based browsers
* Internet Explorer 6.0
* Opera 9.0 + DS and Wii versions
* Chrome 3.x
* Safari 3.x + iPod and iPhone versions

Don't forget Windows Mobile and the Android browsers D:

Pocket IE works fine (6.5's is perfectly rendered in 'Desktop' mode), Opera Mobile works, and on the Android side, the native Android browser works great (since it's WebKit IIRC).

Opera Mobile is the same engine as Opera desktop. I'd like to test it in Pocket IE, but I have no Windows Mobile phone to test it on. If the Android browser is Webkit based it should fall under Safari and Chrome.

Steam browser is embedded IE, IIRC.

I believe you are correct; when you install Steam on Wine/Crossover on Mac/Linux, it also installs IE 6.

It shouldn't. It should be using the Gecko (Mozilla Firefox) engine, because Wine uses Gecko to render its fake IE. IE is bundled with Windows, so it shouldn't need to be redistributed. Even so, can Valve legally redistribute IE?

Steam browser is embedded IE, IIRC.
Then explain why it gets a acid3 test score of 16, while IE8 gets a score of 20.

Point the browser at http://ipnow.org/ and it'll tell you. Embedded IE will always identify itself as IE; this can't be changed.

IE7 gets a score of 14.

Firefox 3.5.4 on Fedora Linux 12 works great.

It scores 93 on the Acid3 test.

It says its IE8.0… but
I doubt it is using it

That might be due to the window size.

Acid3 score is not a reliable indicator of what browser is used, because it can vary based on execution speed, window size, caching, et cetera. Run it twice and you may even get two values.

As does Opera 10.10 on Fedora 12.

It scores 100 on the Acid3 test.  (On each of 5 trials 2marc).
