>:( I went on adopt a glitch and noticed lots of spam in the comments with 100s of spammy hyperlinks. I don't know what this is about, I would never click on these links. Ever!

I deleted all of it, and also took care of some spam on the Celebi Glitch page. We really need to implement some solution to this problem… Even separating the comments into pages or putting them in a scrollbox would be good because it would keep the spam from making the page 100 times its normal size and make it so that the spam is not immediately visible.

I used a simple solution for thefoobar.ath.cx's guestbook: keyword filtering. That is, posts containing keywords normally used by spammers (cialis, viagra, casino, poker, etc) are filtered.

It could work here, and since I use only two scripts (one for the Glitchdex and one for everything else) it'll be quick to implement.

..except the latest batch of spam has been advertising completely random things that are unrelated to what you listed. :( We may have to either block hyperlinks, implement IP tracking, or put a restriction on how many posts can be made in a certain time period.

I don't like IP banning because there is a chance that the spam is coming from "Zombie" computers, which are innocent users' computers hijacked by a worm or trojan horse and subverted to do the spammers' bidding.

True, but the more I look at this spam the more I wonder if it's really automated. Think about it: We get about 20 to 30 spam messages every now and then on a select few pages, but if someone had a bot or "zombie computers" to spam us, we would have hundreds of spam messages on every page. Not to mention the usernames, which are obviously random keyboard mashings and not randomly generated letters because of the way the letters repeat. And I don't think that GCL is big enough to justify someone going through the trouble to infect other computers with viruses that make them spam our site.

What if you make it that you have to be a member of glitch city labs forums to post there?

So if they spam you can tempearally burninate them?
