In general, it's better to use a hex editor and table file to change the text in a game, rather than using game-specific tools.

I agree, though it is difficult if you want to edit graphics, but for text- find and edit on any game, hex editor is always better.

It's quicker, but limiting. You can't edit all the text in the game with AdvanceText, whereas you can with a hex editor. You can also modify lots of games with a hex editor, while AdvanceText is presumably limited to a few. Learning hex is very beneficial in the long run.
That being said, it's your choice. I know what I'd do, but your tastes may be different.

Translhextion is a useful one. Its main problem is that it loads the entire ROM into your computer's RAM, which may be bad for larger files; I don't hack anything larger than 2 megs, so it's not a big problem for me. How big do GBA games tend to be?

Don't most people have more than 16MB of RAM?
