I talked about this on the IRC, but I thought it would be more beneficial here. As some of you may know, i'm developing a video game from the ground up, meaning i'm not using edited or borrowed graphics, borrowed or stolen music, and abiding to all copyright rules and regulations. As far as development, I will post updates on the first post, and attach demos (or links to it) here as well. If something is in bold and underlined, that means it's something that won't change (or won't change much if it does)
This topic is not just for me, and I highly encourage you to voice your opinion about it, drop suggestions, and post bugs/glitches or flawed game mechanics here. I will add a list to what needs to be done and update it accordingly.
I'm also putting a list of positions with an explanation on each, for those who would like to help develop the game. If you apply for a position, you will be credited for your work, and will have to work with the other developers as well. If you would like to help develop, please check up on the list on this post to make sure that all the positions aren't filled.

If you do not apply for a position, you can still state your view on it, and point out anything wrong when an official demo is released, however you will not be credited. (if there is an exception, you will be under the special thanks)

Since this is the first update
The game is at what I call step 0. Step 0 is creating the resources I need to start getting anywhere. I am working on a sprite sheet that has over 40 different frames, which I think i'm going to stick with (at least as the basis) for the main character. The first sprite (which I enlarged) can be found in the attatchments. I've been coming up with a few ideas as far as game mechanics, setting, and what type of genre. I'm set on the game being a 2d side scroller Platformer/rpg taking place in the modern world and time period, however I want it to have fantasy qualities about it. I decided the main character will be an animate Maneki-neko statue, so it can contrast to the serious world of the game and leave opportunity for humor, and allow more room for creative liberties. One of those liberties ties into game mechanics, so you will do cat-like things, such as climb certain walls, and having a maximum of 9 lives. I was toying with the idea of making currency everything in this game, such as health, a means of attack, and a means to buy objects, but I'm not entirely set on that.

Each and every developer is a valued contributor and will be treated as such. You will be credited for all the work you have done (or not credited if you prefer), and may receive special rewards as a treat during the development. If this game happens to go well, and happens to be nominated for production, you will receive a cut of all the monetary profit that it brings. I could help write the game's script & story, but I don't have MSN or IRC or any of that shit, so I don't know if that'd be a problem or not.

I'd love to help as a minor contributor to the story. I'm not going to have enough time to do a lot of it, but I'm a concept guy by nature and I like to create universes, cultures, and settings as a hobby. However, if you want a constant team, I'm afraid I'm too busy right now to contribute in a major way.

:D it's cool, anybody can contribute. Please post your ideas here in this topic. As I said in the first post, you won't be credited unless it's used and you'll be under the "special thanks"

The only constant members that would be absolutely necessary would be the programmers/software specialists, because we would have to share files.

Sorry on the late update guys, i've been extremely distracted. I posted a new animation on the above post with the rest, however it looks way too stiff and needs some work. As far as the music, story, etc. I haven't started yet. (well…kinda on the music, but lets just say one or two instruments aren't enough to make a soundtrack). The story and dialogue is something that I really need help on, because I can't make up my mind on it. The biggest problem is finding a motive for the main character… who is he and why?
However, I do have somewhat of an idea… I'd like the character to perhaps start out in a city, either as a prop for a small japanese restaurant, or as a fully accepted citizen. Something happens, and he needs to do random task for whatever reason. By doing that he has to travel THE ENTIRE WORLD, to complete that task.
To define what I mean "the entire world", I mean the world in which we live in today. It won't be like Illusion of Gaia for the SNES where it only highlights a few parts, but will represent each country, state, island structures, etc. through what it is known for, and all of it's glory. There will also be areas that play on religion/mythology throughout the game such as a heaven and hell , Valhalla, Elysium, etc.. I'd like to leave out as much stereotypes as I can, while still making the place recognizable to an audience.

As of now, the game will be worked on with Enterbrain's IGmaker. If it's too much hassle for other members to use, it can be ported to .swf through that, and we/I can try to convert it to be compatible with something else, or redo it if we have to.

As for items go, I'd say anything can go as long as they make sense where they are found and what they do. Some basic uses would be
A) currency
B) health
C) misc. bars (mana, stamina, etc.)
D) weapon
E) power up

And if you have a suggestion and would like something changed, please leave a comment. Also, help is always appreciated.

Hey guys, sorry for a late update, nothing really has been updated due to some family and financial issues. Just to let you guys know, I have been active on steam (thanks to photon), so hit me up a message or request if a delay like this happens again, and you have something to contribute.

After this update I'm just going to edit this post to avoid triple post. The game is on a huge halt guys, I'm dealing with a huge issue as in I'm getting kicked out of my house in a bit. Obviously motivation has been crushed last few weeks and I do apologize. I'll be headed to college then I'm out, which means i'm having to take a full semester, work my job, and manage expenses and whatnot. (growing up sucks) So I'll get what I can done when i can.

Hey guys, just letting you know the game is still in progression. I've recently come across a sweet program that does NES style music which, in my opinion, fit the old school feel that i was wishing to create. Update 9/22/13

Obviously progress has been slowed tremendously, but new concepts and ideas have been sprouting in my head these days. Here are a few sneak peeks of some concepts that might come into the game. (keep in mind these are unfinished)
