Milk is never a bad choice. You need your calcium.

My, if this is the last topic ever active on these forums, I'm gonna feel ashamed for the rest of my life.

Gotta bump'em all !

Are we really in such a bad state? :(

Uh, I remember a post from torchickens that I understood as approximately that… gee, I wish I could spend more time on GCLf as well as on my RPG project, but unfortunately that's gonna be IMPOSSIBRU.

Though, I'm currently working more on the wiki than on the forums…

Do you mean this post?

We aren't as active as we were, and it's sad, but I don't think we're in a bad state. Posts have slowed down but there are still active users here, such as you two, and the forum still attracts people interested in glitches who ask questions.  :)

Yeah, I know the feeling ;_; I used to have a lot of projects too. One way of looking at it is they're hobbies, there is no obligation to commit; so I assess how I feel and if I'm in the mood to contribute to them so be it. I used to stay up late, and with my Youtube account it has become difficult not to go back to my old lifestyle because comments can quickly build up, but the other element is I feel being early to rest, early to rise is underused.

There are still contributors, like me with the Yellow functions list. Without contributors, this place would become a standstill.

I never asked for this feel.

I guess Torchickens types faster than me, heh :P. I'll post what I wanted to post anyways, even if this post is late now.

There is so much for you to know, depending on how deep you want to go. Here I'll talk about GB stuff, since I don't know much about newer gens.

Level zero : good tools.
There are two emulators which are most accurate : BizHawk and BGB.
BizHawk is mostly used for TASing (as far as I know), and BGB may not be intuitive, but it has the best debugger you'll ever find.

Level 1 : messing with memory.
To begin doing cool stuff, you should check Datacrystal.
They have a superb RAM map, go check it out !

Level 1.5 : learning the machine
To dive even further, you must learn to know the machine. Fortunately for you (and us), the Game Boy is the best-documented Nintendo console.
First, know that the Game Boy's processor is derived from the z80 processor (its name is… the gbz80 !!).
So first, if you don't already know, learn z80. I can give you a tutorial designed for TI 8x calculators, because that's the way I learnt z80. See z80 ASM in 28 days.
Then you'll need to learn the differences between z80 and gbz80 (removed and added opcodes…)
That, I have no tutorial. Maybe we should do a wiki page on how to program in gbz80… dunno.
Now, you know how the processor works. Then, you must learn about the rest : check out gbdevwiki.

Level 2 : Break It Down To The Code
Well, if you know how the machine works, time to dive into Pokéred or Pokécrystal.
These are complete disassemblies of the Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow and Crystal games, respectively. If you know how the machine works, you should be able to pick huge info out there.

Well, that's all I can tell for Gen I and II ; but you can also peek at Gen III, which also is quite known and understood ; but if you are an Uber Adventurer, you should check out Gen IV.

Side note for everyone : the list of generations we have ACE on :
* Gen 1 (8 methods as of now ? Maybe 9 soon)
* Gen 2 (2 methods, actually one per game :P)
* Gen 3 (although we need to stabilize this a bit)
And Gen 4 might be peeking at the corner… we should check more the invalid jumps caused by unstable tweaking.
