Croconaw and Caterpie recently evolved despite occasional B commands during evolution, so I tested this by evolving Cyndaquil in Gold, and found that B only cancels evolution in certain frames (i.e. evolution may succeed even with some B presses, if you're lucky enough). Can anyone look into this?

That's interesting. Testing this with a Cyndaquil, it isn't to do with how many frames B is held down, because even pressing B for one frame can stop the evolution at one point early on. There's a tendency for it to not work if the animation is currently on the sprite of the evolved Pokémon, but it may not work when the sprite still shows a Cyndaquil either.

Edit: To make things clear, by 'not working' I mean B not stopping the evolution.

They just started FireRed, and apparently they got a girl, and both they and the rival are named "A".  A bit disappointing.
