Ok need to get a wifi adapter for gba then.
Well, uhh…I could send a shiny Cascoon caught in RSE to you through a save file if you wanted, but I was thinking 3DS Wi-Fi. I'd move it up to (Ultra) Moon.

Currently hunting my second shiny arceus, this time caught in Café, I wanted to catch it in restaurant but my streamchat won the strawpoll with Café instead

Suit yourself, it's just a simple Method J search though. :P

I started a new file on Fire Red and obtained the same shiny Aerodactyl as I posted before in less than 100 SR's.  Seems a lucky poke for me. The other Pokemon you can SR for in FR/LG such as the starters, Eevee, Lapras and the game corner pokes - I have never obtained as a shiny despite resetting a lot for them. I don't even go for shinies, I just SR for good natures and IV's.

Well this was tragic. Two balls left (one when this photo was taken) I used a rock and it broke out both times. Nidorina's catch rate is not so low, so I feel this was plain unlucky. Oh well this was my first wild shiny I've encountered on Fire Red.

Hey guys,

So basically, I've been playing Pokémon since R/B/Y, but I recently made a total count of hours played on games that contain Shiny Pokémon (2G onwards).

That would be 857 Hours and 28 Minutes, distributed on 17 different games. While playing the main story, I have been doing for all this time a Living Pokédex run (for which at this time I have 803/807 Pokémon total). That to explain that I have spent a considerable amount of time attempting to encounter Pokémon.

Despite this, never in my life I have encountered a Shiny Pokémon by pure chance.

Until last night, with that little Heliolisk in the Ultra Space Wilds. It took that much time for me to finally reach that milestone  :P

300-some hours across all gens before my first. Legit SoulSilver cart, it was a Ratatta. Level 7(?)… accidentally killed.

Mega oofers.

I can't get the exact amount of hours I've played Gens 2+, but i'd say it was around that amount (circa 300 hours). Never recall genuinely encountering a shiny without actively looking for one/hacking. Oh well ¯\_()_/¯

Not too long ago I accidentally encountered a 1/8192 Shiny Ho-Oh while fishing for Pokémon in EN Pokémon Gold glitch map 0xDA00, no lie.

Too bad glitches were required and this was not on 3DS Virtual Console, both meaning I wouldn't want to transfer it up as it's technically not legit or couldn't legitimately be moved up the generations.

Unlucky though. :( Hope you get one like that soon.

It was possibly one of the Level 135 ones, but I don't know for sure, ha ha.

How does the game decide if pokemon hatched from eggs are shiny? I've looked around a bit and haven't found anything. If it makes any difference, I'm using Ultra Moon.

EDIT:  Fixed a typo.

It runs the Pokémon's PID (bit hard to explain this, but think of it as a Pokémon's unique identifier among 2^32) and your full trainer ID (i.e. both the visible and the secret ones) through some sort of operation, and if it returns true, it's shiny.

It does make a difference in Gen 6 and on, actually, because they introduced yet another variable to the mix called the "TSV" that's set when you name your character, but the process is presumably similar and ends up having a 1/8192 chance to return true.

Wait, what? Everything from XD is shiny-locked.

Is the pokemon's PID generated when it hatches or when you get it from the daycare?

When you get it from the Day Care. (You're able to trade it to a save file with a different ID to make it hatch shiny, but there's no reason not to make it shiny on the first file to begin with.)
