Back in the mid-late 2000s, this forum was a vastly different place, especially during summers. New posts and topics would go up every few minutes. Large amounts of users and guests would not only be online all at once, but would be actively participating in conversation across multiple boards. Put simply, our forum was much much more active when the post requirement was created.
Now, it's not like this forum is in an unhealthy place right now. Plenty of active discussion still happens, and the quality of said discussion is arguably higher than it was back in the 2000s. However, most discussion now is focused in one or two topics at a particular time. Gone are the days of many users posting across a wide variety of topics – nowadays, there's one or two topics that are "focuses" for the week that draw the majority of attention. It's not a bad problem to have; it's just different than it was in years past.
As a result of this "culture shift" (as I'm calling it), the quality of posts that users make on a per-user basis has gone up. But the quantity of posts that users make on a per-user basis has gone down. I don't really see a need to institute a 50 post requirement for Forum Games anymore, considering that, now, 50 posts is a significant amount of posts. Back then, 50 posts wasn't really that many.
I could go on about this topic, but I won't. It's a pretty simple issue and I won't elaborate further because I don't think that's necessary. There are risks, yeah, like having a flood of users coming in that only want to use the Forum Games section, but given that we're not a super well-known forum (as opposed to somewhere like Serebii or Smogon), I don't really think that's an issue.
So, yeah. Take it away!
