Nintendo Switch live presentation : 13/01/2017, 4:00 GMT

Yeah, I know that was this morning, but whatevs.
Let's talk about it !

Did you watch the Switch presentation ?
Do you think it'll be better than the Wii U ?
Do you think it'll suxx way harder ?
Will you buy it ?
Y'know, stuff like that.

I love the features Nintendo added. The "HD vibration" thingy and this "Arms" game hype me near 0%, but the semi-portability rings a few bells for me.
I also give a kudo for Splatoon 2 (looks even better than the original ? Wah.), Mario Odyssey and MK8 Deluxe (just for the new characters and tracks. 0 fuck given about the engine being the same)
Plus, Skyrim and Breath of the Wild. FREAKING BREATH OF THE WILD AS A LAUNCH TITLE. If I was working hard enough for my ever-nearing terms, I'd pre-order all right now, but gotta work hard, heh.
Whatcha think 'bout it ?

I missed about 15 minutes of the beginning. xD But I really do want to pre-order a Switch but problem is that I'll be moving soon, and I work that Friday so I wouldn't be able to stand in line to pick it up or have it get sent to my address… Super Mario Odyssey gives me a huge Sonic Adventure/Unleashed vibe though it still looks really cool. xD

I'm not going to buy one at launch, I'll probably get one several months later, hopefully launch-time bugs will be ironed out, more games will be out and i'll be able to pick a preowned one up for a cheaper price.

I don't really think this belongs in Calendar Events. I'll move it to Video Game Discussion.

Also, I'm mostly hyped about the Switch, but the three things that irk me the most are how expensive the accessories are ($80 for another Joy-Con set? $70 for a Pro Controller? Goodbye local multiplayer), the lack of launch titles outside of Zelda, and the paid online subscription fee. If it's reasonable (say, $30 a year) I'll be okay, but any more than that and I may have a problem.

Paid online starts fall of 2017 so we have a quite long trial period, I also heard that Wii U ports wouldn't use this system.

So… any bets on how long it'll take to hack the Switch? I'm guessing 6-10 months.

Probably significantly longer is my bet. I don't think, outside of hacks made in Wii mode, that he Wii U had any large-scale hacks/homebrew released for it a la the Homebrew Channel on the Wii. It also took a few years of the 3DS being released for any real notable hacks to come out for it, so I'd imagine we're looking at a 2-3 year timeframe before we get any significant hack of the Switch.

Take some time to notice that it takes forever to hack the handhelds, but not very long to hack the consoles.
64? …About a year. GBA? Flashcarts came out pretty recently for it.
Gamecube? Datel did it in a few months. DS? No softmods yet!
Wii? Pretty damn fast. DSi? Not even softmoddable yet.
Wii U? Piss easy. 3DS? …probably the only exception.

To me, the only things that really appeal to me are Mario and Zelda, which both look amazing (especially Zelda). Hopefully we actually get the Dragon Quest releases in the West without waiting 1,000 years.

The price, paid online, ports, gimmicks, and weeb games I just do not care for. Ultimately, I doubt I'll get it on launch, I'll have to wait to see what other new games (Metroid, hopefully) will be released in the future before I throw my wallet in.

My father keeps telling me "Nintendo needs to just give up and die!" because the newest consoles are overpriced. I just keep telling him "They're not going bankrupt any time soon!"

Actually, Switch is a home console, so…

Like I said, the home consoles have been easy to hack.

*Bump*

Has anybody played Super Mario Odyssey and would like to share their thoughts on the game yet? I've heard it's really good. I'd like to get it for my birthday (due to financial reasons and another big gift I'll not be getting one for Christmas).

ISSOtm played it, and posted his entire reveiw on Discord. Decided not to share pictures of his review for they are too large, but essentially he recommends it.
