I'm not certain that destroying the console is a great idea; you may be able to use some parts in a working setup later on.
As for the 32X, it's not really all that complicated, it's just a major pain to get working.
An important point to remember is that the electromagnetic shielding plates that go into the Genesis' cartridge port aren't actually necessary.
