Jesus H. Christ, this needs to stop. Not only are there obvious bots roaming about, but many new "members" put links to unrelated sites in their profiles, an obvious attempt at boosting search engine ratings. Perhaps a different pending membership system should be reinstated, such as being allowed one introductory post to determine whether the poster is a bot.
I fully support this.

This, but don't make it voting.

Perhaps a new member group, only able to post in the Introductions board, would be created. New members would automatically be in this group. After looking at his/her first post, a mod or something would determine if a new member was human (a Turing test, if you will) and move them into the normal members group. If it failed the Turing test, then they would be banned, possibly permanently. If possible, members who have not yet posted would not have their profiles shown, preventing spam in there (though that isn't very important.)

So the questions remain:

The latter three questions depend on if enough people think this is possible/a good idea. It could be a lot of work, but it could also result in very little spam outside of the Introductions board. What do you think?

How about we automatically ban anyone who puts an external link in their first post? Obviously you'd have to remind new members on the registration page or something, but I think it's more or leess fullproof.

…This is what I get for not learning programming; the simplest solution is always the best. You win.

What animal goes meow/mew?
A cat?  But cats don't go mew. And mew isn't a animal.

Too bad we can't create a bot on the boards to get rid of spambots.

Mew goes mew. Is Mew not a cat?

Edit: If Pokemon are not animals, what are they? Fungi?

"Mew" in the English dictionary states that it is a sound that comes from a cat.
CASE CLOSED.
Cats go meow and mew.
PERIOD.
