For once, I'm just not in a hurry to check it out. I'll probably only have the excitement to when I actually play it.

If someone could say who the sound staff are, though, I'd appreciate knowing that.

Man… the more I hear about Sword and Shield, the more I don't want to buy it.

I put details about the game in a spoiler tag in case anyone doesn't want to get spoiled. You've been warned.

EDIT: I don't know how to use spoiler tags! So I posted the spoilers below in an attachment.

Yeah, I saw some of the stream as well. I'll be playing it and will probably enjoy "because Pokémon", but am just not in a hurry to.

Spoiler tags just don't work in the forum's current state. In response to each though, shift each forward 8 for Gen 8:

Toby's battle theme is straight fire. I always liked Battle Against a True Hero but the instrumentation never did it for me. Not so here.

Sword will be arriving in a couple of days. Zacian grew on me and Zamazenta…ungrew on me. It was the same with Reshiram and Zekrom.

Toby's battle theme is straight fire.
Bede's too, damn. Some hardcore Black and White 2 vibes from Zacian and Zamazenta's too: long live the Ichinose "I promise I was trying to be serious" style! :D

Oleana's is fun and energetic. The leitmotif is very similar to one I threw down early this year; maybe I should make a battle theme out of it.

It's all great from what I've heard so far. Seems to just be Ichinose and Adachi this time around, but we got our fix of Sato (and Fox) in Little Town Hero. Keep up the good work and keep staying the hell away from that realism fad!

First impressions (picked up Shield):
- Game is easy
- Game is fun
- Wild Area is extremely cool
- Game is very visually appealing
- Routes are straightforward

There's some un-obvious technical issues, too, like things popping in and frames dropping here and there, but the game as a whole is fun, and that's really what matters. Unpolished fun, but fun nonetheless.

I have Sword now and also got a lucky Galarian Ponyta through trade (usually a Shield exclusive), which I absolutely adore! :) If I ever get a Sirfetch'd or similar feel free to post your link code, as should be able to get some Farfetch'd. ^^ Also when I can breed that Ponyta, you can have some for anything too. owo

Are Sword and Shield worth buying a switch for? have had a few friends describe the game to me and it sounds at least quite different from previous pokémon games.

it's been super dumbed down and it's plagued with technical issues.

I'd probably never buy a system for just one game unless it was a really old used one or bootleg, but that's just me. Haven't played these yet, though.

Also, wow, long time no post, Angrysmurf! It's been ages!

Welcome back, Angrysmurf! I remember you. :) It's true that they're quite different (for example, you now have a large open space called the Wild Area [though there are still encounters on normal routes] which is like Breath of the Wild and you have to run away from overpowered Pokémon, TRs [technical records]). You can see all the wild Pokémon like Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee. In respects in my opinion they are quite good, in others (like the lack of Pokémon, moves, the move relearner glitch, not so much). Additionally it currently feels like one of those games like X/Y where it takes a long time to get the first badge but you start getting the others much faster.

Unsure whether they're worth buying a Switch for, but if you really like things like battling/reading the story/any Pokémon game, can afford it, and don't mind for its losses, go for it.

Gotten started! Picked, of course, Snifle.

Haven't done much yet. Taking it at my own pace. Did the second Hop battle when I last finished.

Oy, trainah, oy c'n see yuh challenge a mere Snifle in the face of moy supreme int'llect! Put 'em up, guvna, or aw'll be late for awftanoon tea!
(The dialogue has been very good at making me picture them with British accents…)

I'm the intro character, which means my job is to speak to trainers after starting the game about…shapes and sizes of Pokémon, that the world is filled with them, that some use them for fighting…
…And…I'm boring myself just talking about it.

I don't give bad starter Pokémon.
If a good trainer comes to me and says, "Thank you, Leon, for the opportunity and continued support in the battle-related arena, but I want to better myself, I want to move on," then I can make that dream come true…

AKA, to you.
The point is: you talk the talk, but do not walk the walk, vis-a-vis, you've not yet won a single battle.
But the professor of the region is a personal friend of mine, all right? I know you can be the Champion.
*makes phone call*

Sonia, you old edgehog. *winks at trainer*
It's me, Neon Freon Leon of the Eon.
*some talking*
…Cipher Peon.
*talking stops*
Sorry. Go ahead.
*talking continues*
Oh, yeah? Still looking for a Champion? Don't bother. I've got the trainer here. She's perfick.
…Has she beaten the Elite Four? She's in the Elite Four. *brings fingertips to nose and extends them forward*
…Yeah, yeah! She's EV trained, yeah. *opens up Google on his phone and quickly shows it to the trainer*
…I'll get her team over to you this afternoon! *opens PkHex*
I'm seeing Magnolia this Sunday, aren't I? For the Dynamax research?
…How's Oak? He left her yet?
*cringes* …See you then. *hangs up phone*

He has left her. Forgot about that.

Hop. Friendly rival. Been my brother since you were a baby, haven't you? Yeah.
I'd say, at one time or another, everything on two legs has hopped on!
…Sorry. Can I have some items to give to the trainer, please?

Hop, these are Poké Balls. How many times have I told you? There's a special place for Poké Balls. It's called the PC!

As usual, sticking with just the starter till the mascot legendary pops up. I know, Genwunner, Exp. Share, all that. I really like that gopher with a big tail, though, even if I thought it was uninspired at first. Loving the scenery and interface changes, too! From what I've heard, I'm glad I'm not a good judge of graphics. The rural environment is fantastic, definitely much more my type of thing than Alola and what it seemed like Kalos was maybe going for. The brick buildings, the wooden fences, the rich green grass…didn't like the stadium the opening took place in, but I'll see what I think when the trainer gets there.

Let's say no spoilers yet, because I've managed to avoid them myself so far and the game's still just out.

Before reaching the town with the first Gym, I got Snifle up to level 36, which I thought was a bit soon considering I wasn't trying to grind. It evolved into its final form, which I took one look at, put in the PC, and will not be using ever again.

Instead, I caught a Tympole which is now a 20-something Palpitoad, so I guess my starter will be that!

I caved (literally) in and caught an Axew and Drilbur too, but don't know if I'll keep them around. My love for Unova merely overwhelms to too great a degree for me to ignore them.

I've been taking the game very slowly–only just beat the first gym yesterday, but have six hours of total gameplay logged. I have a habit of not moving onto a new route until I've caught every Pokemon on the previous route, so that's what I'm attributing my slow pace to.

Catch rate in this game is very annoying. It feels borderline impossible to catch Pokemon that are even one level higher than your own.
